The Interlocutor Slot: Citing, Crediting, Cotheorizing, and the Problem of Ethnographic Expertise
Abstract
In this reflexive commentary, I consider the generic forms of writing that we (anthropologists) use to demarcate what counts as expert knowledge or theory, and the links and distinctions between the politics of citation and that of acknowledgment. I'm particularly interested in reconsidering how we figure our interlocutors as part of a larger project of refusing to reproduce extractive disciplinary models of knowledge production.
